Iven

Isaac Horton is a DIY artist who creates under the moniker of Iven. While he’s been at it for years, the Mule Town, Tennessee native made the move to Nashville two years ago in order to pursue music more seriously. With a few singles out previously, he released Little Lady #1 in March of 2018. Around this time, he began working on what would eventually shape into its sequel, Little Lady #2, a six-track record out on cassette May 31 via new local DIY record label, To-Go Records. Horton’s creative process is driven by pure obsession. The sound of Horton’s work is unexpected. Iven could easily appeal to fans of Animal Collective, Thom Yorke or R. Stevie Moore, but his music couldn’t be more unique and immune to categorization. Layers of noise make for a multifaceted density that feels 4D and implores a sense of curiosity within the listener. Peel the layers back and you’ll hear mellifluous guitar work, poetic lyrics delivered by a beckoning, smooth voice and electronic production that synthesizes it all together. In making Little Lady #2, he locked himself in his house and deeply explored the idea of being enveloped in sound. His experimental approach led to much diversity within each individual song. Horton’s music is psychedelic in the sense that it completely ignores the boundaries of genre for something expansive, complex and symphonic. It’s bedroom rock at its finest, diligently created for the pure excitement of recording.
